The Tesla Cybertruck made waves when it was unveiled with its DeLorean-like bare stainless steel body. This replica, on the other hand, eschews the steel in favor of wood, and while it might look a little rough around the edges, it’s for a reason.
Dubbed the “Plybertruck”, the wooden replica was created by CJ Cromwell. It recently gained traction on Reddit, where before its actual name was known, people were coming up with some pretty clever nicknames for it, including “Cedartruck”, “Cyberchuck”, and “Model Tree”.
The Cybertruck knock-off was made to compete in the Gambler 500 rally, which is what explains the less-than-perfect looks. For those who aren’t familiar, the Gambler 500 is a 500-mile (805-km) navigation rally where participants’ vehicles are limited in purchase cost to $500. The vehicle underneath the Plybertruck’s wooden exterior is actually a first-generation Acura MDX, so while it’s obviously not electric like the real Cybertruck, we have no doubt that it met the $500 purchase cost cap.

However, after the initial purchase price of $500, there’s no limit on how much money participants are allowed to put into their vehicle, which was what allowed for things like the wood and the light bar. As one person in the original Reddit post’s comments jokingly wrote, “Given the price of lumber these days it probably cost more to make than the real thing.
