Energy storage company Urban Electric Power has announced its alkaline battery has completed UL 9540A tests related to thermal runaway. An independent testing lab reported that “thermal runaway was not achieved” by UEP’s zinc manganese-dioxide battery cells.

Urban Electric Power’s chemistry was invented at City College of New York and is on its way to being approved for installations in dense urban environments.
