NEWS RELEASE CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP
The Township’s Water Department will be conducting Fire Hydrant Flow Testing on Thursday, September 23rd from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. which may cause water discolouration in the downtown area of Fergus. Fire hydrant flow testing operations will be conducted overnight to reduce customer inconvenience. Water discolouration may be experienced by customers while this test is ongoing and for several hours afterwards.
Over time, naturally occurring minerals along with iron and manganese, which is found in our groundwater can build up as sediment in the pipes. When fire hydrants are used, this sediment can be stirred up due to the high water velocity and high water volume used.
If discoloured water is experienced, residents are urged to turn on a cold water tap nearest to your water meter and allow the water to flush slowly for several minutes until it runs clear. If after 12 hours, your water still appears discoloured, please contact Centre Wellington Infrastructure Services at (519) 846-9691, Option 2.
