New Eatery On Santa Fe Ave + YMCA Gifts Bikes To 3rd-Graders - Patch.com

Santa Fe Avenue, which used to be famous for its peeling facades, is seeing a significant overhaul thanks to the local community. Also, 55 third-grade students have new bikes thanks to the YMCA of Greater LB. Finally, here's where to get your sandbags before the next rainstorm hits.

  1. Santa Fe Avenue in West LB is getting an overhaul. On Monday, we learned that the previously neglected thoroughfare is now receiving attention from politicians, donors, companies, and community members. Now, when you visit Santa Fe Avenue between Willow Street and PCH, you first notice the restaurants. A new one, the Vegan Castle, has opened up at 2400 Santa Fe Avenue. Power-washing has removed gum from sidewalks, while murals beautify previously peeling facades. (LB Post)
  2. Fifty-five third-graders from Aloha Health Medical Academy received a fantastic surprise on Monday. The magnet school located at 11737 214th Street collaborated with the YMCA of Greater Long Beach to sponsor an essay contest. Winners were to receive new bikes. However, the Bikes for Kids program donated sufficient bikes for each third-grader to receive one. "Every third-grade student receives a bike, lock, and a safety helmet."
