Canadian investor gets green light to mine - Chronicle

A CANADIAN mining company, Zephyr Minerals Limited, says it has been registered by the Government for gold and base metals venture in Nyanga, Manicaland province.

The mining group has also made an application to the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development for two Exclusive Prospecting Orders (EPOs) covering an estimated 124 000 hectares of gold prospective ground.

In a statement, the mining group said: “The company is pleased to announce that through its wholly-owned Zimbabwean subsidiary, Sutter Mining (Private) Limited, it has received registration from the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development for the Nyanga North prospect, which comprises two staked special blocks totalling 201 hectares prospective for gold and base metals in the north-eastern part of Umkondo Basin of Zimbabwe.”

The special blocks cover an area encompassing a postulated 2-kilometre-long shear zone, which is interpreted from satellite imagery to be the eastern extension of a gossanous (rust-coloured oxide and hydroxide minerals of iron and manganese that carry ore deposit) gold bearing eluvium zone.

Recently, the zone was mined by local artisanal miners as evidenced by numerous small pits.

“In addition, Sutter has made an application to the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development for two EPOs covering approximately 124 000ha of gold prospective ground and 61 000ha are located in the Nyanga area surrounding the special blocks,” said Zephyr.
