eBay Leverages Perplexed Customers to Improve Google SEO - EcommerceBytes

eBay is using customer's questions as fodder to gain greater visibility on search engines like Google. It recently coached buyers and sellers to do a better job of creating titles when creating a discussion-board post.
As an example, eBay said, "Instead of using, "I have a question" as the title, consider something like, "How do you print a shipping label on eBay?"
That way, eBay explained, "If someone were to run a search within Community or on a search engine about how to print a shipping label on eBay, it'll increase the chances significantly that your post will be served-up to them."
Here's how eBay explained the reason behind its request: "The Community team is trying to ensure questions and solutions to member posts are seen by as many people as possible. When a search is done on Google, Safari, Firefox, Bing, etc. related to a question about eBay, we want to do what we can to ensure helpful eBay Community posts are served-up towards the top of the page."
eBay served up some real-life examples of titles that it felt were not optimized for outside search engines (in other words, titles with poor SEO):

eBay pointed out that effective titles can eliminate redundant posts or "provide great insights that the person running the search will find useful."
