Nearly 200 high-tech surveillance cameras have been installed at the entry and exit points of Pakistan's Islamabad to further beef up the security and make surveillance more potent, an official said on Monday.
The purpose of the newly installed AI-enabled cameras was to ensure broader online monitoring and surveillance as well as help the police to curb crimes and eliminate criminal elements in the city, Director General of Islamabad Safe City project Romail Akram told Xinhua.
All the vehicles entering or leaving the capital are being monitored through these smart cameras, the official said, adding that after the new installation, the total number of surveillance cameras in Islamabad has increased to 2,400, bringing a sense of security and peace among the residents.
He said the government has been taking measures to install more of such surveillance cameras in the city over the next few months to fully cover Islamabad.
