A Google search for “best career coaching services” returns over 5,000 results, and “top career coaches” returns over 6,000 results. How do you evaluate these purported top services? What strategies can you deploy to avoid common SEO marketing scams that sellers use to trick potential customers?
In this article, I share how to effectively evaluate top career coach lists found online, as well as what to look for when evaluating career coaches so that you don’t get pulled into a potential online scam. Let’s dive in.
1. Review the article source.
For starters, take note of the list’s author, as anyone can create a “best career coaching services,” “top 10 career coaches” or “best tech career coach” list. Note whether it’s a third party such as Forbes or LinkedIn producing the list or just a career services provider attempting to gain additional coaching clients.
If it’s the latter, and the author continually ranks themselves first on hundreds of lists, particularly across multiple industries and locations, be cautious. While it’s plausible they’re the best career coach in a single industry or location, it’s unlikely they’re truly the top career coach across dozens of industries and multiple continents.
