In a day and age when women are making waves in all sectors professionally, one mother-of-two quit office in order to live like a housewife from the 1950s.
Alexia Delaros, 29, was a working professional for a company. But now, she lives the 1950s life and says her only role is to take care of her children.
And guess what. She's not the only one who had made such a bold choice, Alexia is part of a growing movement called 'tradwives', recent western culture that denotes a woman who believes in traditional gender roles and a patriarchal marriage.
Many tradwives are of the opinion that a woman does not lose rights by choosing to take a traditional gender role in marriage. Many of them choose to leave their careers to focus on their family.
According to Google Trends, online searches of the term "tradwife" began to rise in popularity around mid 2018.
Alexia says she chose the stay-at-home life because she felt neglected by her working mother as a child.
“My mom worked and she also enjoyed time outside of our family home with friends. I have always wanted a more traditional model for my family. I loved the idea of a 50's style family life, where the wife stays home to look after her husband and kids, and the husband goes out to work full time,” Alexia said.
"I remember watching films where the women would stay home to cook and clean for their husbands, and I thought it was a romantic and sweet life. It really resonated with me," she added.
