If you use iMessages, you might not even realize how wonderful the world of RCS messaging standards can be. RCS messages replaced SMS based communication by introducing rich characters like emojis along with facilitating features such as group messages, read receipts and so on.

Apple has refused to play ball with the RCS standards, and with all of that having been said and now out of the way it is important to note that this has given Google the opportunity it needs to stand out from the crowd. The search engine juggernaut has been hard at work weaking its Google Messages property and trying to upgrade the delivery indicators that users can see while using it.

Some users started noticing a few odd features in Google Messages starting back in October of 2022. That included iconography for read receipts instead of text. Just like WhatsApp shows single tick marks for sent messages, double ticks for received messages and blue ticks for read messages, Google’s own messaging application was going for much of the same.

It turns out that Google will be rolling these features out to a wider audience. That will give users a much better experience on Google Messages than might have been the case otherwise, since it will make the messaging platform more modern and comparable to the likes of Signal and WhatsApp with all things having been considered and taken into account.
