(Ad) Kevin Miller and Jon Zacharias are model students in the school of hard knocks. Both of the GR0 co-founders are recovering addicts who met, by chance, in a recovery room and built a digital marketing empire from a single conversation.
Miller, who grew up in Ormond Beach, Florida and went on to study at McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University, spent three years working for Google before moving to L.A. for a fresh start. Zacharias was raised in Los Angeles and received a law degree from the California Western School of Law in San Diego before devoting ten years of his life studying search engine optimization (SEO).
In a true phoenix-rising-from-the-ashes story, both Miller and Zacharias wound up in the same AA meeting, where they found not only the hope needed to rebuild their lives, but a shared entrepreneurial spirit that helped them build their company.
Says Zacharias of Miller at that meeting, “He was talking about how he was working on an SEO project. He was a master digital marketing expert with paid ads, having worked at Google. But he had been assigned an SEO project to do for Open Listings (later acquired by Open Door), and he didn't understand how to do SEO.” Zacharias approached Miller after the meeting and offered to help with the SEO aspect of the project. The timing, and the matchup, were perfect.
