The caretaker Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications in Pakistan, Dr. Umar Saif, has expressed confidence that the launch of 5G service in the country will take place within the next eight months. Speaking at the HBL P@SHA ICT Awards 2023, Dr. Saif revealed that consultants have been engaged to assist with the process of 5G launch, with the inter-ministerial advisory committee for 5G auction already approvedthe federal cabinet. The government is actively working towards making 5G service a reality within the stated timeframe.
Furthermore, Pakistan plans to establish a special court within the next two weeks through an ordinance to address reforms and disputes related to the telecom sector. The Telecom Appellate Tribunal will be instrumental in delivering efficiency and timely justice to stakeholders involved in long-pending cases.
In his address as the chief guest at the awards ceremony, Dr. Saif emphasized the significant role that the IT sector can play in stabilizing the country’s economy. He called on IT companies to bring their reserves back to Pakistan and increase their capabilities to contribute to the growth of the sector. The government is committed to providing necessary facilities and support, and the industry’s collaboration is crucial.
