Profile pages are the new author pages, and discussion forum results are getting more attention in Google's search results (again).

Thomas Han, Product Manager at Google, announced Google Search support for ProfilePage and DiscussionForumPosting Schema markup. Using the Schema markup makes forum posts and author details eligible for rich results and search experiences in Google Search.
Discussion forums’ triumphant return
A decade ago, discussion forums used to rank highly in Google, and more recently, search snippets displayed forum topic details, which were influenced by adding the DiscussionForumPosting Schema markup. However, the forum topic details were removed from rich results, similar to the recent removal of FAQPage and HowTo.
Google is now showing renewed interest in discussion forums, which may be a defensive move against news publishers and lawmakers trying to push a link tax. It may also be connected to Reddit’s incredible growth, searcher’s click behavior with Reddit search results, and its congruous format with traditional forums. Whatever the reason, Google is signaling that it sees an opportunity with the curation of creator perspectives on its search engine.
Profiles usurp authors
This new initiative differs from the past because of Google’s focus on the creator. The inclusion of ProfilePage represents an all-encompassing approach to authorship.
