“The Singer” by Roger Himes — A Song In Honor of John’s Music Legacy (John often said he liked to be called ‘The Singer’)

Castle Rock , USA, 06/04/2011 / SubmitMyPR /

John Denver’s death occurred October 14, 1997. The John Denver plane crash was in Monterrey Bay, California, but John Denver songs live on. John Denver music will never die. We still often hear songs like Rocky Mountain High, Sunshine On My Shoulders, Annie’s Song, Country Roads, Leaving On A Jet Plane, and countless others. We’ve grown to love him for the music legacy he left. As a tribute to him, Roger Himes wrote a song, The Singer. Read the lyrics, and about the song at: http://www.JohnDenverTribute-TheSinger.com. There is a link at the top of the homepage for a new VIDEO on YouTube that showcases the song, and also a slide show reflecting on our memory of John. Here are a few lines from the song to wet your appetite:

His music rings through the heavens, his songs are sung by the stars
His melodies make love with the breeze, and his words find home in our hearts.
The Singer now is silent, but his songs are his legacy
His songs give hope to tomorrow, he gives voice to the joy in me
Though The Singer is silent, there still is the truth of the song.

Roger sang with John in a nightclub in Texas for a few weeks in John’s ‘BC’ days — before he was a celebrity. This is before there were any John Denver songs or John Denver music as we know it. Roger was a regular at the club, and John was making a guest appearance. The two alternated sets all evening, and then often sat up late talking. And you didn’t just talk about the weather, sex, sports, or T.V. with John. You talked about things that matter in life. John was a deep thinker, focused on making a world-wide impact. He certainly succeeded!

John impacted Roger in a big way, and thus the reason for this new John Denver tribute video. When they sang together, Roger says most of the music was negative and downbeat. John came singing a different type of song. He was upbeat and happy, singing about love, friends, family, mountains, God, country, and the American west. The audience’s response to John was amazing, and it changed all Roger’s ideas about music. After moving to Denver, Colorado, he built a law practice singing in nightclubs, and passing out business cards. The Denver Post dubbed him as, “The Singing Attorney — With a John Denver Delivery.”

If you like John Denver, be sure see the video!! Click on the link at the top of the home John Denver music home page. John Denver’s death, and his plane crash were tragic. But the way he lived life was his trademark, as reflected in the music legacy he left us. The lyrics to the song, The Singer, are powerful. They will touch your heart, and will bring-back many fond memories of John – what he stood for, and what he sang for.
