There is an abundance of information on choosing your cosmetic surgeon on the Internet. At Southern Surgical Arts, we agree that there are tips that one should follow in order to choose a qualified and experienced cosmetic surgeon.

- The obvious: Ask your friends and family, for recommendations and see if anyone has had a bad experience with a particular surgeon. You can also visit review sites for recommendations.
- The doctor should be board certified in a surgical specialty recognized by the ABMS and be specifically further trained in all aspects of cosmetic surgery. They should also be practicing within the scope of their training. A fellowship-trained and Board-Certified Cosmetic Surgeon is certified by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery and has completed a fellowship program with the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. This means the surgeon completed one to two years of training dedicated only to cosmetic surgery. A board-certified, fellowship-trained Cosmetic Surgeon must also have completed a residency from an ABMS surgical specialty training program.
- Trustworthy and respected cosmetic surgeons should have privileges to perform cosmetic surgery procedures at an accredited hospital.
- Updated and an abundance of Before and After pictures should be readily available for you to see. This is a reassurance piece and lets you decide if the surgeon consistently provides good results. Only seeing a few pictures from a surgeon should give you a hint that either they only show their best or they do not perform many cosmetic procedures.
