Minneapolis Orthodontics Office is Toys for Tots Drop-Off

Cosmopolitan Orthodontics, a Savage and Minneapolis orthodontics practice, is making it easy for patients to give to those in need this holiday season by serving as a Toys for Tots drop-off location.

The office invites patients to donate an unused, unwrapped gift. The Savage and Lakeville offices are drop-off points again this year, and the donation boxes will be at both offices through Dec. 19. Dr. Trudy Bonvino a pediatric orthodontist, whose orthodontic services include braces for children and adults, reminds patients that giving does more than make them feel good; they get something in exchange.

"Every patient who brings a toy to give will receive tokens, which can be collected and redeemed for awesome prizes," says Bonvino. "Since we opened, we've made every effort to take part in community-oriented festivities, and Toys for Tots is a great opportunity for us to also get our patients involved." Since Cosmopolitan Orthodontics began participating in the program, Bonvino's patients have let their generous spirits show, she says.

Toys for Tots started in 1947, when U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Maj. Bill Hendricks and several Los Angeles Marine Reservists gathered and gave away thousands of new and refurbished toys to needy kids. Thirty-one years ago, the Marines switched to collecting and distributing only new toys.

What is the purpose behind the Marines' efforts to collect and give toys to needy children? The organization's goal is to deliver a message of hope to needy kids, in hope that it prompts them to become "responsible, productive, patriotic citizens," according to the organization’s website.
