The wide spread availability of prescription opiates in conjunction with their overall ease of use and the acceptance thereof sets the stage to become the largest drug use epidemic our country has ever seen. Negative imagery of drug abuse will not apply when local drug dealers are replaced by the local drug store. Many are unaware that prescription opiates share the same chemical properties as heroin both for rates of addiction as well as devastating physical effects of withdrawal.
