Automakers are constantly working to green-up their lineups, but it is notable for their dealerships to join in and become more eco-friendly as well. Tim Parker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, an Arkansas Chrysler dealer in Hot Springs, was recently one of just 30 dealerships nationally to be recognized by the Chrysler Group for its environmentally conscious operations.
Chrysler received 75 entries for its new Dealer ECO Program and chose winners based on their major ECO initiatives, energy efficiency, wastewater control, waste recycling, vehicle lift maintenance, bulk oil containment and community relations programs. Tim Parker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram was one of only eight winners to have what Chrysler qualified as a major ECO initiative: a 2,000-square-foot solar array that is one of the largest privately-owned installations of its kind in Arkansas.
“We believe that we have a duty to reduce our impact on the environment, and we’ve been working for years to improve efficiency and conserve energy during our operations,” said Tim Parker, dealer principal of Tim Parker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. “Our solar array reduces our dependence on electricity from the grid and has a very real effect on our monthly expenses. Meanwhile, our recycling of things like metal, cardboard and paper drastically reduces the waste coming from our dealership.”
Each year, Tim Parker Chrysler’s recycling initiatives save 43,000 pounds of paper, 24,000 gallons of oil, 12,000 tires and 2,500 pounds of cardboard from reaching landfills. Additionally, the more than 100 solar panels conserve 35,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity and 26 tons of carbon-dioxide emissions annually. Other energy-efficiency measures at Tim Parker Chrysler include seasonally programmed thermostats, photocell exterior light switches and downdraft fans on exterior doors to reduce the loss of warm or cool air.
Efficient power has also become an important facet of the products on sale at the dealership, thanks to Chrysler’s efforts to further refine the drivetrains in vehicles like the 2012 Chrysler 300 luxury sedan. Capable of returning up to 31 mpg on the highway, the feature-packed Chrysler 300 offers an impressive mix of luxury and fuel efficiency.
Key to the 2012 Chrysler 300’s attractive fuel economy is its new standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, which uses variable-valve-timing technology to produce 292 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque without guzzling gasoline. Those efforts are augmented by the 300’s new eight-speed automatic transmission, which keeps the engine running in its most efficient range. All that efficiency doesn’t equate to a lack of acceleration in the Chrysler 300 though; the full-size sedan can sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 6.6 seconds.
“People are often surprised by how quickly the new 300 accelerates because they hear the phrase ‘fuel efficient’ and think it must be slow,” Parker added. “Chrysler has done a great job of improving the fuel economy of its vehicles without diluting the performance and refinement that fans of the brand have come to expect.”
