Specialist claims management firm Payment Protection Refunds is calling on anyone who feels they may have been mis-sold payment protection insurance (PPI) to come forward and see whether they have genuine grounds for a successful claim.

So far, millions of people across the UK have been awarded compensation having fallen victim to financial firms’ dubious selling practices. Recently, Miss H of Manchester was awarded a hefty payout after contacting Payment Protection Refunds.co.uk Having originally been mis-sold PPI more than 20 years ago, Miss H won £104,000 in compensation, much of which was made up of interest refunded on top of monthly charges.

Britain’s big banks have reportedly set aside around £1bn in anticipation of further compensation payouts, and Payment Protection Refunds believes many more members of the public could have fallen victims to banking malpractice and may therefore be eligible for significant amounts in compensation.

“In these times of austerity, millions of people across the UK are anxious about their finances,” said Alan Hope at Payment Protection Refunds. “Imagine, then, how it must feel to find that on top of everything else, it also turns out you’ve been duped into buying payment protection insurance by the banks. It’s essential that the financial giants are held to account, and that those who feel they may have fallen victim to mis-selling come forward and stake their claim.”

Predominantly offered alongside such financial products as credit cards, store cards and loans, PPI was marketed as providing consumers with protection in the event of a long-term absence from work, whether through sickness or redundancy. However, in recent years it has emerged that many of those who agreed to buy PPI did so without having been made fully aware of the relevant conditions, cost and cancellation rights.
