Pickup Truck Tops Kelley Blue Book's List of Best Vehicles for Gridiron Grilling

With the Arkansas Razorbacks football season officially underway, some local Hog fans might be thinking about upgrading their vehicle to something a little bit more tailgate-ready. To help with their decision, Kelley Blue Book's kbb.com recently released its 10 Best Tailgating Vehicles of 2012, and topping the list this year is the 2012 Ram 1500 pickup truck.

Whether the University of Arkansas faithful are making the trip to Fayetteville or Little Rock this season, they'll want to bring some serious grilling gear, and kbb.com recognized the Ram 1500's full-size bed for being able to haul it all. Of course, tailgaters need plenty of cold beverages to wash down all that BBQ, which is why kbb.com editors noted the truck's available RamBox Cargo Management System featuring two drainable bins that fit up to 240 cans each.

"The Ram 1500 beat out two other pickups at the top of the kbb.com tailgating list because it offers more creative and convenient storage options," said Tim Parker, dealer principal of Tim Parker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, a Hot Springs, Arkansas Ram dealer. "It doesn't matter if you're heading to the game against Louisiana-Monroe this weekend or The Battle for the Golden Boot in November, Ram's pickup can accommodate everything you need to cheer on the Hogs."

Intuitive storage options continue inside the 2012 Ram 1500, which is available with in-floor bins that can also be filled with ice to keep refreshments and snacks cool during football-fueled road trips. Meanwhile, an optional 506-watt Alpine premium sound system can get Razorback fans pumped up for the game, whether they are en route or already playing cornhole or ladder golf outside the truck.

When it goes on sale in October, the all-new 2013 Ram 1500 will be able to get fans to either Razorback Stadium or War Memorial Stadium on less gas. Receiving a new 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, the next-generation Ram 1500 features best-in-class fuel-economy ratings of 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, surpassing competitors' standard models by at least two miles per gallon in both categories. The 2013 Ram 1500's boost in fuel efficiency doesn't mean a drop in power compared to its predecessor either; in fact, it has increased by 42 percent to 305 horsepower.

Diehard V8 fans will still find plenty to like about the 2013 Ram 1500, thanks to an available 5.7-liter HEMI V8 that churns out 395 horsepower and 407 pound-feet of torque. Even with that impressive performance, the engine uses variable-valve timing and cylinder shut-off to help its Ram 1500 trims return the best fuel economy of any V8 truck in the segment.

"The Ram 1500 is a powerhouse truck fit for cheering on a powerhouse football team," added Parker. "There are many reasons why the 2013 Ram 1500 will be a game-changer in the pickup market, but the gains that it has made in power and fuel efficiency alone should bring a lot of new buyers over to the brand."
