The Scion tC has accounted for 40 percent of Scion's lifetime sales, so it is safe to say that each redesign of the sports coupe can have a significant impact on the brand's overall success. For the 2014 model year, the tC boasts improvements in performance, interior quality and styling, while limited-edition 10th anniversary models will be available for each vehicle in the Scion lineup. Despite the significant amount of new features in the 2014 tC, it won't cost much more, with the car's base price set to remain under $20,000 when it goes on sale in June.

Performance upgrades for the 2014 Scion tC include enhanced handling and a new optional six-speed automatic transmission that shifts nearly twice as fast as its predecessor. That gearbox will also feature Dynamic Rev Management technology pulled from the new Scion FR-S sports car, allowing the tC to blip the throttle on downshifts. The stabilizer bar hardware and shock absorbers have also been optimized, and the electronic power steering is more precise, making handling easier and more responsive.

"Scion has amped up the features of the tC while keeping it affordable for those who want a car that is both sporty and functional without breaking the bank," said Randy Smith, sales manager of Russel Scion, a Scion dealer in Baltimore, Md. "The 2014 model shifts and handles better than ever to make you feel like you're behind the wheel of a premium sports coupe."

The styling of the 2014 tC has been revamped as well, with more aggressive design lines, unique headlamps and a bolder front grille. Drivers will also find a more luxurious and user-friendly cabin that is fitted with higher-quality materials and standard features like a 6.1-inch touch screen, Bluetooth connectivity and easy-to-access controls mounted on the steering wheel.

For tC buyers who want to stand out a bit more on the road, a limited-production Scion 10 Series model will also be available in June to commemorate the brand's 10th anniversary. The limited edition's unique Silver Ignition paint color will be accented by illuminated blue badges and special touches throughout the interior, including silver seat belts, a solar-powered illuminated shift knob and a numbered badge. With redesigned and limited-production models on the way, Scion hopes that the tC will continue its upward sales trend from the last two years in 2013.

"At just under $20,000 for the base trim, buyers will be getting their money's worth with the 2014 tC," added Smith. "You could buy other sports coupes with similar features and performance for more than twice as much money, so the Scion tC is an extremely good value pound for pound. Even the exclusive Scion 10 Series models will be priced at well under $25,000."
