Many young drivers take the opportunity to relax during the summer with leisurely trips that allow them to enjoy their vehicle's fun factor. According to AutoGuide.com, those who buy a Scion FR-S are in for a treat, as the popular sports car has earned a spot on the automotive-review site's list of the top 10 cars for summer under $30,000.

AutoGuide.com editors praised the responsiveness of the Scion FR-S, which stays true to its sports-car spirit with a low center of gravity and precise handling. The rear-wheel-drive coupe houses a front-mounted 2.0-liter Boxer engine that generates 200 horsepower, providing plenty of punch considering the car's light weight. Contributing to that track-worthiness are standard sport pedals and paddle shifters on the optional six-speed automatic transmission. Buyers can get all those features at a sticker price well below AutoGuide.com's $30,000 limit, prompting the site to call the FR-S an obvious choice for its list.

"Summer is the time when a sports car truly shines, and the Scion FR-S can make your next trip to the beach or any other vacation destination more exciting by becoming part of the memory," said Wade Sterry, general manager of Russel Scion, a Baltimore Scion dealership. "The FR-S is a great machine for honing performance-driving skills because it responds well and never feels overpowered, allowing for excellent control."

For the 2014 model year, the FR-S and all other Scion vehicles will be equipped with a standard 6.1-inch touchscreen audio system that controls Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free phone calls and music streaming. Additionally, the 2014 Scion FR-S will include new sport knee cushions on the door panels and sides of the center console, improving comfort for front-row occupants when the lateral G-force increases on tight corners.

Driving enthusiasts continue to respond to the FR-S' combination of performance and affordability, as it is the best-selling model in the Scion lineup through the first seven months of 2013, moving 11,635 units in the United States. Sales of the sports car have been instrumental in bolstering Scion's market presence, with interest in the FR-S soaring since its launch in June 2012 for the 2013 model year.

"Scion used smart engineering to keep costs down while making the FR-S a true sports car to its core, and that has created an irresistible proposition for driving enthusiasts on a budget," added Sterry. "For the 2014 model year, buyers of the Scion FR-S will be getting even more for their money, thanks to the standard touchscreen and the improved comfort from the sport knee cushions."
