Chrysler Group announced its continued streak of year-over-year sales increases with July sales up 11 percent over the same month last year. The auto group turned back the clock to pre-recession sales volumes, posting the best July sales since 2006. Six individual models saw their best-ever July unit volumes, and the Jeep, Dodge and Ram brands each posted year-over-year sales gains over July 2012.
The Jeep brand fared particularly well, with the Jeep Grand Cherokee up 30 percent over the same month last year to 15,019 units sold. Overall, the brand sold 42,277 vehicles last month, the best July sales since 2005. Each of Jeep's four models currently in production saw increases over the previous July, with the Jeep Wrangler up 18 percent, the Compass up 27 percent and the Patriot up 29 percent.
"Chrysler's 'we-mean-business' brands are popular with drivers who need to get stuff done and want to look good doing it," said Russ Daniel, partner and general manager of Landers McLarty Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram, a Bentonville, Arkansas Jeep dealership. "Jeep, for one, is an iconic American brand, but it isn't resting on its laurels with the current offerings from the brand. Instead, Jeep is continually upping the ante with technology that improves fuel efficiency, power and performance."
One example of the Chrysler Group staying on its toes with updates to its models was the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee's update, which came just three years after the 2011 reimagining of the SUV. One of the Grand Cherokee's oft-mentioned new features is the available EcoDiesel V6 powerplant. This 3.0-liter diesel-powered engine delivers 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, yet the Grand Cherokee still manages to return best-in-class fuel economy, topping out at 30 mpg on the highway. The vehicle's efficiency results in an impressive range of up to 730 miles between fill-ups.
