Nissan Titan Will Add Turbo Diesel Engine to Next-Generation Lineup

Pickup drivers have been demanding a diesel option in the half-ton segment for quite some time, and Nissan is stepping up with a powerful turbo diesel V8 engine. When the next generation of the Nissan Titan pickup is unveiled, it will include the new diesel engine as a powertrain option. A slightly modified version will also be available in Nissan's range of commercial vehicles.

Nissan embarked on a partnership with Cummins, an American engine manufacturer with almost a century of experience, to produce a 5.0-liter turbo diesel V8 specifically designed for the next generation of the Nissan Titan full-size truck. It is expected to generate more than 300 horsepower and well above 500 pound-feet of torque. Fuel efficiency will also be one of this engine's most attractive features in comparison to gas drivetrains of similar capacity.

"By bringing together Nissan's expertise in truck manufacturing and Cummins' leadership in engine development, the next-generation Titan turbo diesel truck will be a force to be reckoned with," said Marty Kellum, general manager of Landers McLarty Nissan Huntsville, a Nissan dealer in Alabama. "The added torque of a diesel powertrain will bring the Nissan Titan to a performance level comparable to that of some heavy-duty trucks."

Besides the new engine, future Nissan Titan models will also come with an expanded set of cab and box trims. Currently, the Titan boasts the largest standard engine in its class, with a 5.6-liter V8 providing an output of 317 horsepower and a maximum 9,500 pounds of towing capacity. A removable tailgate and channeled bed floor also grant additional versatility at the work site.
