Redesigned Model Leads Half-Ton Pickups in Available Power and Torque

In the constant battle for supremacy in the highly competitive half-ton pickup truck segment, there is a new leader when it comes to engine output. The redesigned 2014 Chevy Silverado was recently SAE-certified at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque with its optional 6.2-liter V8 engine, giving the model the most horsepower of any pickup truck and the most torque of any light-duty pickup.

Available in LTZ and High Country models, the 6.2-liter V8 also allows the 2014 Silverado to reach a class-leading trailering capacity of up to 12,000 pounds when properly equipped. For truck buyers seeking more of a balance between performance and fuel efficiency, an available 355-horsepower 5.3-liter V8 returns 23 mpg on the highway, leading all V8-powered pickups. The new Silverado's standard engine is a 4.3-liter V6 that produces 285 horsepower while netting 24 mpg on the highway.

"Despite the recent focus on fuel efficiency in the pickup segment, Chevy knows that truck buyers really want to see advances in power and torque, and the Silverado's 6.2-liter V8 delivers the goods," said Bo Hendrick, general sales manager of Waterville, Maine Chevy dealer Central Maine Motors. "Though you don't hear it mentioned much in truck commercials, Chevy also realizes that safety is just as important to truck buyers as car buyers, so its engineers ensured that the new Silverado is a leader in that category as well."

Last month, the 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 and High Country joined their GMC Sierra and Sierra Denali 1500 counterparts to become the first pickup trucks to earn a five-star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) since the organization changed its New Car Assessment Program for the 2011 model year. Crew-cab models of the 2014 Silverado excelled in the NHTSA's battery of crash tests, boosted by their fully boxed frames, extensive use of high-strength steel and six standard airbags with a 360-degree sensor system.

The top-trim 2014 Silverado High Country is Chevy's first premium pickup truck, sporting a unique chrome barred grille, 20-inch chrome wheels and body-color front and rear bumpers. Inside, owners benefit from luxurious features like heated and cooled leather front seats with High Country logos on the headrests, a premium Bose sound system and an eight-inch touchscreen that controls the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system. The Silverado High Country's upscale amenities are matched by powerful performance with either the standard 5.3-liter V8 or an available 6.2-liter V8.

"The Silverado High Country is equipped with everything you need for tackling the tough jobs, but it also rewards you for your hard work with high-quality materials and amenities," added Hendrick. "When the work day is done, the High Country stays on the clock with its comfort and convenience, whether you're ready to relax with a night out on the town or looking to stay connected during a weekend road trip."
