New Appearance Package Nods to the Pickup Truck's 1960s Forebears

Though it was inspired by the late-1960s Chevy Custom Sport Trucks, the new 2015 Chevy Silverado Custom Sport special edition offers buyers a decidedly modern and minimalist look. With orders for the pickup truck now open at Chevy dealers, the 2015 Silverado Custom Sport stands out with its monochromatic style, donning body-colored front and rear bumpers as well as a body-colored grille surround.

On Silverado LT models, buyers of the Custom Sport package can choose between black or white paintjobs, while a pearl-shaded White Diamond Tricoat replaces the white option on Silverado LTZ models. The Chevy Custom Sport Trucks of the late 1960s were significant because they brought a touch of sophistication to the segment, and the new 2015 Silverado Custom Sport does the same with a chrome-accented black grille and the use of chrome for its 20-inch wheels, door handles, mirror caps and body-side moldings. Rounding out the special package are projector beam headlights, heated power-adjusted mirrors and tow hooks.

"The Silverado looks as bold and athletic as ever with the new Custom Sport package, but at the same time, buyers get a more distinctive style by going all white or all black with the chrome accents," said Bo Hendrick, general sales manager of Central Maine Motors, a Chevy dealership in Waterville, Maine. "No matter which Silverado model they chose, though, our customers are going to receive the unmatched capability that's expected from a Chevy pickup truck."

Completely redesigned for the 2014 model year, the Chevy Silverado comes standard with a 4.3-liter EcoTec3 V6 engine that produces 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque, the most torque of any standard V6 in the segment. Meanwhile, buyers who upgrade to the 355-horsepower 5.3-liter EcoTec3 receive the most fuel-efficient gas V8 ever sold in a pickup truck, with the powerplant returning up to 23 mpg on the highway. At the top of the engine range, a 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 churns out 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, enabling a class-leading towing capacity of 12,000 pounds when the 2015 Silverado is properly equipped.
