Refreshed Muscle Car Receives New 485-Horsepower Scat Pack Model

While the current Dodge Challenger was achieving its best-ever April sales last month, Dodge was revealing a thoroughly refreshed 2015 model of the popular muscle car at the New York International Auto Show. When it arrives at dealerships this fall, the 2015 Challenger will seek to build on its nameplate's sales momentum by mixing retro styling cues pulled from the classic 1971 model with cutting-edge technology under the hood and inside the cabin.

Outside, the 2015 Challenger's 1971-inspired accents include a split grille surround and split tail lamps, while the modern glow of LED halo headlamps and taillights will make it clear that this is not your father's muscle car. Meanwhile, a newly available Scat Pack 6.4-liter HEMI V8 will churn out a best-in-class 485 horsepower, enabling the Challenger to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in the mid-four-second range when equipped with the new TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission. That same smooth-shifting gearbox will be standard on the base 305-horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, further improving fuel economy while being paired with engaging features like paddle shifters and a Sport mode.

"The new Dodge Challenger may pay homage to the past, but the advanced technology in its updated powertrains, chassis and suspension would have been a pipedream back in the early 1970s," said Tim Parker, dealer principal of Tim Parker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, an Arkansas Dodge dealer. "Buyers of the 2015 Challenger will not only be getting massive amounts of power, but also the refined engineering required to properly harness all that output on the road."

Beyond its new high-sill center console and driver-focused instrument panel that harken back to the 1971 model, the cabin of the 2015 Dodge Challenger also presents a forward-looking approach in terms of technology. New interior features include a standard seven-inch thin-film transistor (TFT) customizable gauge cluster, a ParkView rear back-up camera, and an available 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen that can be used to tweak performance functions like shift times and engine and throttle responsiveness. Buyers will also be able to opt for new segment-exclusive active-safety features like adaptive cruise control, Blind-spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path Detection and Forward Collision Warning.
