HM King Mohammed VI held a phone conversation on Monday with King Juan Carlos I of Spain and HRH Prince Felipe, Prince of Asturias, speaking of a statement by the Royal Office.
The statement recalled that the Spanish Royal family has always been close to the Moroccan Royal family.
During this phone conversation, HM the King paid a heartfelt tribute to King Juan Carlos I for his crucial role in the political and democratic transition. In Favor of the establishment, HM King Mohammed added to the conversation his values of freedom and peace during his reign.
The sovereign has, afterwards, extended his congratulations and wishes of success to Prince Felipe on the occasion of the abdication decision in his favor, the same source said.
Historians say Juan Carlos, 76, played a crucial role in guiding Spain's transition to democracy.
The incoming king of Spain, Crown Prince Felipe, 46, represents a "new generation" said King Juan Carlos who has been the country's royal leader for the last 39 years.
HRH Prince Felipe has been educated in Spain and the US. He graduated with a law degree from the Madrid Autonomous University in 1993 and spent two years studying for a Masters in International Relations at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
