Honda Reclaims Top Billing in Edmunds.com Best Retained Value Awards

Lineup Has Been Best Non-Luxury Brand for Three of the Past Four Years

PLYMOUTH, 07/03/2014 / SubmitMyPR /

After being briefly dethroned by Jeep in 2013, Honda is back at the top of all non-luxury auto brands in the Edmunds.com 2014 Best Retained Value Awards. The popular marque has now received that honor for three of the past four years, providing a lineup that is predicted to have the highest residual value overall after five years of ownership.

To determine its five-year residual values, Edmunds.com considered the average cash True Market Value of a vehicle during its first five months on the market -- with a minimum of three months for new models -- as well as the average estimated five-year-depreciation figures for each of the first 12 months following its launch. In addition to the Honda brand's leading projected five-year residual value of 50.1 percent, the 2014 Honda Civic and 2014 Honda Odyssey also topped the Compact Sedan and Minivan categories, respectively, to earn Best Retained Value Awards.

"All you need to do is pay attention to all the older Hondas that are still out on the road to understand that they retain their value, but the brand has also done a lot in recent years to prove that reliability doesn't have to mean owning a boring vehicle," said Mike Antosca, general manager of AutoFair Honda of Plymouth, a Massachusetts Honda dealer. "The Honda Civic and Odyssey are both great examples of that initiative in two very different segments."

While all Civic sedans now feature a more aggressive front fascia with a sculpted hood and a black honeycomb grille underlined by a wing-shaped chrome strip, the 2014 Honda Civic Si Sedan takes things up a notch with 18-inch alloy wheels, a chrome exhaust finisher and a body-colored wing spoiler. The Civic Si also offers a significant boost in performance thanks to its sport-tuned suspension and a 205-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. Though minivans are not typically known for their engaging rides, the 2014 Honda Odyssey has been praised by auto journalists for handling like a much smaller vehicle while earning a 28-mpg highway rating that is on par with many large sedans.
