New Four-Door MINI Hardtop to Hit the Streets Next January

Small Car Will Offer More Interior Space than Its Two-Door Brethren

BEDFORD, 07/31/2014 / SubmitMyPR /

Though the MINI lineup already features a four-door model with the MINI Countryman compact crossover, the eccentric auto brand has yet to offer a four-door version of its flagship MINI Hardtop small car. That will change next January when the 2015 MINI Hardtop 4 door goes on sale, providing more passenger and cargo space to buyers.

With its wheelbase increased by 2.9 inches and its body elongated by 6.3 inches compared to the current MINI Hardtop 2 door, the new four-door model adds a third seat in the rear, where passengers will enjoy more headroom, legroom and shoulder room. Behind the rear seats, owners will get an additional 0.5 cubic feet of cargo space, bringing the total to 9.2 cubic feet. Elsewhere, the 2015 MINI Hardtop 4 door will benefit from the same upgrades that the MINI Hardtop 2 door received for its full 2014-model-year redesign.

"The new Hardtop model will be the smallest MINI vehicle yet to have four doors, meaning that buyers will get added versatility without losing any of the signature go-kart-like handling that comes with the modern version of the original MINI," said Gary King, general manager of MINI of Bedford, a New Hampshire MINI dealer. "Best of all, the MINI Hardtop 4 door will offer the same advanced engines and in-car technology that were introduced when the latest generation of the two-door model went on sale earlier this year."

Like its two-door brethren, the 2015 MINI Hardtop 4 door will come standard with a responsive-yet-efficient 1.5-liter MINI TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder engine that produces 134 horsepower. Buyers who upgrade to the MINI Cooper S Hardtop 4 door will have 189 horsepower on tap through a 2.0-liter MINI TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder. Inside the cabin, the new MINI Hardtop 4 door will boast options like an 8.8-inch high-definition color display for the intuitive MINI Connected infotainment system, a Head-Up Display, and active-safety systems like camera-based active cruise control, high-beam assistant, and collision and pedestrian warning with initial brake function.
