Cars.com, USA Today and 'MotorWeek' Praise the Redesigned Model

Still the best-selling vehicle segment in the United States, the midsize-sedan class remains highly competitive when it comes to winning the hearts and minds of discerning families. If midsize-sedan buyers are looking to spend less than $27,000 while netting at least 28 mpg combined at the gas pump, Cars.com, USA Today, PBS' "MotorWeek" and even a real-life family have concluded there is no better option right now than the redesigned 2015 Hyundai Sonata.

The $27,000 Midsize Sedan Challenge scored 10 popular cars based on a series of tests in the Baltimore area. Seventy-five percent of a vehicle's score came from course testing by editors at Cars.com, USA Today and "MotorWeek," while 15 percent was assigned to the same testing by the Kapoor family from the suburbs of Washington, D.C. All judges rated vehicles on acceleration, handling, ride, roominess, comfort and features. To determine real-world fuel economy, the cars were also taken on a 180-mile drive that accounted for the final 10 percent of their scores. While tallying the highest total score of the bunch, the 2015 Sonata was praised for having the ride and handling of a pricier vehicle, a more-than-sufficient drivetrain and a long list of features that pampers parents while protecting their children.

"The new Hyundai Sonata was an easy choice in the Midsize Sedan Challenge because it checked off all the boxes on the judges' list of criteria," said Scott Levy, general manager of Rosen Hyundai, a Hyundai dealership in Algonquin, Ill. "The 2015 Sonata is simply the most well-rounded midsize sedan out there right now, and not only that, but its buyers can get all the advanced features they're looking for at an affordable price."

As if the nod from three media outlets in the $27,000 Midsize Sedan Challenge was not enough, the new Sonata was also recently named a Top Rated Vehicle by Edmunds.com. The auto-research site evaluates more than 200 new vehicles annually, granting Top Rated Vehicle status when a model achieves an "A" rating compared to the rest of its price and size classes on a standardized road-test loop and test course. Along with its many other changes for the 2015 model year, the Sonata received a stiffer body structure and a revised suspension for a smoother ride and sharper handling, as well as newly available technologies like automatic High Beam Assist, Smart Cruise Control and a hands-free smart trunk.
