Eating Disorder Center of Kansas City opened on December 29, 2014 to provide care to a previously underserved Kansas City area. After noticing a lack of higher-level eating disorder care in Kansas, Missouri, and surrounding states, staff at Eating Disorder Center of Denver worked to ensure that a new center was established.

“Providing a high-quality, higher level of care in town so women and men don’t have to go out of the city for eating disorder treatment is the primary goal of our center,” said Tanja Haaland, LCPC, Program Director of Eating Disorder of Kansas City.

The center provides treatment for Anorexia, Bulimia and Binge Eating Disorder through their Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) level of care. In addition to PHP, the center also offers a Transitional Intensive Outpatient Program (TIOP).

Eating Disorder Center of Kansas City is committed to providing care to individuals with eating disorders by utilizing an evidence-based treatment model. The center’s multi-disciplinary treatment team works together with patients to identify factors that drive the patient’s eating disorder, create opportunities to introduce positive behavioral changes and devise a plan so those changes become rooted in everyday life.

The center follows a unique approach called CAMSA™ (Connection, Acceptance, Mindfulness, Sense of Self, and Action). CAMSA™ is a mindfulness-based treatment model that focuses on healing the whole person: mind, body and spirit. By understanding the biological, psychological, social and spiritual issues that contribute to the manifestation of an eating disorder, the center provides patients with the skills necessary to accomplish and sustain long-term recovery.
