What “Female Viagra” is NOT

Procedures like Mona Lisa Touch Are Changing Women’s Health

Dallas, 08/04/2015 / SubmitMyPR /

Men and women aren’t the same, so it should come as no surprise: “female Viagra”, (Flibanserin), is not what you think it is. It doesn’t increase the physical capacity for post-menopausal women to engage in sexual activity, it merely increases their desire to do so; increases the libido.  The innovative vaginal procedure MonaLisa Touch™ is the next step.

Dr. Marc Siegel, a professor of medicine and medical director of Doctor Radio at NYU Langone Medicine Center, states very clearly in the third sentence of a commentary he wrote for USA Today: “...this ‘pink pill' is not at all like the famous ‘blue pill' Viagra....”

Erectile dysfunction, treated by Viagra, is an entirely different problem than the biologic lack of desire to have sex, which is the symptom that Flibanserin treats. Viagra does not increase male libido and Flibanserin does not make it physically possible for women with symptoms arising from menopause to physically have sex. These two treatments are false equivalents.

“Over 50 percent of post-menopausal women have changes to their health that make sexual intercourse and everyday functions uncomfortable, painful or even impossible, yet only 25 percent of them seek help from their doctors,” says Dr. Dennis Eisenberg of Mona Lisa Partners in Dallas. “We are determined to bring these conversations to light so that women feel comfortable with their evolving bodies.”

“Viagra for men has become as mainstream as Tylenol. That conversation started somewhere – we want this one to start here and now with the MonaLisa Touch. And we need to begin by pointing out that even if a woman is able to achieve the sexual desire through Flibanserin, it won’t address the vaginal health issue that makes intercourse enjoyable or even possible at all.”

MonaLisa Touch delivers gentle CO2 laser energy to the vaginal wall that stimulates a healing response which causes increased moisture and collagen production in the vaginal tissues. Developed in Italy, this innovative procedure has been positively changing the lives of post-menopausal women and breast cancer survivors suffering from vaginal atrophy since 2008. These women have a renewed outlook on their sexuality and again enjoy the pleasure of physical intimacy.   A typical course of treatment is three procedures over 12 weeks. Many women report symptom relief after the very first treatment and even greater improvement after treatments two and three.

Dr. Eisenberg notes, “In an age when baby boomers represent over 28 percent of the population, record numbers of women are reaching this defining life stage where sexual health shouldn’t be dismissed or just not talked about.”
