Nine babies were born to a 25 years old Malian mother who was detected by more than two doctors during the scans. Morocco's nonuplets were born to Halima Cisse. For specialized treatment, Mali's administration has sent her to Morocco.

Her husband said to the BBC, "I'm very pleased." "They're doing well with my wife and babies, who are 5 girls and four boys."

Previous World-Records

  • Earlier, eight babies were born to a woman in The U.S., which was recorded in the Guinness World Record for most children who were born to survive on a single birth.
  • An Australian woman gave birth to nonuplets in 1971 and another in Malaysia, which was previously registered, and neither of them lasted more than a few days.
  • Nadya Suleman, the world record holder, has grown up and is 12 years old now, and she conceived them via IVF (In-vitro Fertilization).

Minister of Health Congratulates Mali

Fanta Siby, Mali's Minister of Health, congratulated Mali and Morocco medical teams for the 'happy result.' The pregnancy of Ms. Cisse has been a matter of curiosity in Mali - even though it was just assumed that she had seven babies, reports Reuters.

Adjudant Kader Arby, the husband, along with the couple's elder daughter, when still in Mali, said that his wife is still in contact with Morocco and does not worry about the future of the family.

"God gave us these children. He is the one to decide what will happen to them. I'm not worried about that. When the almighty does something, he knows why," he told BBC Afrique.

He says the family has got overwhelming support.

"Everybody called me! Everybody called! The Malian authorities called, expressing their joy. I thank them… Even the president called me." [1]

Within weeks' time, the mother and nine new babies will come home.

How Multiple Births Happen At Once?

It is extremely unheard of for such births - mostly resulting from fertility treatment - though we do not know if this is the case in Ms. Cisse. However, gynecologist Bill Kalumi of Kenya's Kenyatta National Hospital claims that they only arise where this is the case. Fertility therapy has pursued a variety of causes.

However, fertility medications are more widely administered in Africa when a woman discontinues a hormonal method of contraception because she may find it difficult to ovulate again, according to Dr. Kalumi. This will lead to the release of several eggs rather than just one during a woman's menstrual period.

Multiple pregnancies are dangerous for both the mother and the baby, and in countries where abortion is legal, a woman who is discovered to be bearing more than four fetuses is usually urged to minimize that number. It is unknown if Ms. Cisse kept her babies to term, but most large-baby deliveries end prematurely.

Risk of Complication

Premature infants, those delivered before 37 weeks, are at risk of experiencing complications because their lungs are fragile, and they are susceptible to infections such as sepsis due to their weakened immune systems.
