Boutique family-owned mill-work shop, Piddi Design has announced that it has successfully crossed the milestone of 15000 completed builds. Piddi Projects was set up by Frederick Piddington, an emigrant from England in 1959. He was a stickler for quality and the highest levels of customer service. This led to the firm’s longstanding partnerships with some of the world's largest brands in both fashion and automobile manufacturing.

Today, the firm is being managed by his granddaughter Caitlin Lee and her husband Thomas Lee. In addition to achieving the milestone of 15000 completed projects, the company has scaled successfully from 20 to close to 100 employees and completed builds covering 80,000 square feet.

The firm pivoted successfully from trade shows to the luxury retail sector to tackle the slum in the trade show sector due to the 2008 global recession and the Covid-19 pandemic. It has differentiated itself from other players in the market through its systematic and quality-oriented approach to custom builds.

Once Piddi Design receives an RFP (Request for proposal) from a client and the proposed design, the team sets into motion a well-designed process that leverages the firm’s expertise to execute the builds in a seamless manner. The salesperson for the project briefs the account manager who consults the production manager and the client to decide on the installation date. A detailed strategy is then worked out on the basis of how long it will take for the build to be produced, shipped, and installed within the store. From the account manager, the baton moves to the project manager who coordinates the technical drawings and works out every detail of the build down to the smallest screw. Once the client has approved the technical drawings, the drawings are passed to the CNC team which focuses on the production of the build with minimum wastage. Skilled carpenters assemble the build and pass it along to the graphics team for adding the graphics. Once the graphics are added, the build is taken back to the carpenters and detailers for final assembly. The account managers then share photos of the build with the client for final approval. For every project, the team ensures that the client is completely happy with the build before it is wrapped, shipped, and installed.

Said Caitlin Lee, Creative Director of Piddi Design,As the third generation representative of my family, it is a matter of great pride to us that we have successfully crossed this milestone of 15,000 projects. We have built on the reputation that my grandfather rightfully earned for his focus on quality and his high level of customization and customer service. He was very passionate about the business. In the process of creating a successful business, he also ensured that his employees were always cared for and earned a competitive wage throughout the year. This was at a time when companies in the trade show sector only provided seasonal employment during the peak periods in the same vein, my mother always paid attention to recycling, procurement from local sources, and use of materials with minimum wastage long before sustainability became the buzzword that it is now.”

Piddi Design has ambitious plans for the future. The company has completed projects in places like Guam and Dubai and has long-term plans to double its workforce and achieve 100 million dollars in sales in six years.
