Navigating the treacherous waters of wealth management requires both skill and prudence. Anticipating the inherent risks and uncertainties of investments demands a wealth of experience and expertise. However, despite the ever changing financial markets, many individuals struggle to weather its fluctuations. André Brouwers, a seasoned financial expert from the Netherlands carries significant weight in this context. He has established a reputation for successfully managing wealth with a steady hand, a sharp eye for risk and an interesting combination of market experience, coaching, and education experience.

André has extensive experience spanning more than 35 years as an investor, trader, hedge fund manager and investing coach. With his considerable experience, André identified some of the most crucial problems in the trading and investment industry. The problems ranged from lack of knowledge and insight, wrong strategy and poor risk management. His inspiring entrepreneurial journey began when he decided to help investors address these issues.

André Brouwers was born and raised in a coal mining town in the Southern Netherlands. His parents owned a grocery shop and that was the main source of income for the family. Though they worked hard all their lives, what they earned was a small savings account for their retirement life. Their financial situation, even after a lifetime of hard work, made André think of managing money in a more productive way. He wanted to pursue something different which helps him preserve his capital and gain progress on it.

Pursuing his passion, André made his first successful investment, remarkably enough, during the crash in 1987. Along the way, he saw many people lose money and struggle due to their bad wealth management and poor risk analysis. Throughout his extensive career, he has come to understand the investment industry's inherent risks and uncertainties, especially for people above 50 or 60 years old. He has identified a lack of proper investment strategies among this demographic, which may not be suitable for their long-term goals, leading to vulnerability and risk.

The traditional investment strategies being used by asset managers and banks is vulnerable, especially for elderly investors. This is because it relies on a longer term horizon to reach an average return which is pointless since that time isn't available. Another pillar of the strategy is diversification, which makes sense, however, in Andrés experience over the last decades he had witnessed that in crisis situations, even well diversified portfolios encounter severe draw-downs. He believes that relying on hard protection is more effective, as it is as simple as buying a fire insurance policy for your home. Furthermore, André believes that too many investors rely on the economy, where he believes it should be focused on psychology. From this, André developed the 3M method, finding the right method, having good money management and having the appropriate mindset.

The difference between a beginner investor and an advanced investor is simple, André knows that for a beginning investor, their perception of the key factors for success are the right information, studying the economy and the business within it, suggestions from others, and etc. Then, if you interview more experienced investors their success factors are aligned with keeping hope in a losing trade, difficulty taking losses, not knowing when to take the profit and too large positions etc.

After years of seeing people make the same mistakes repeatedly through seeing these patterns while coaching investors, André Brouwers saw that investors were thinking too much into the economic part of investing, rather than the psychology part of investing which brings more successful outcomes. André believes that investing should be 80% psychology and 20% economy. He then decided to take action to help investors address this issue. With a wealth of experience in trading, investing, hedge fund managing, coaching, and educating, he spent years researching and developing a methodology to help people preserve their capital and make progress on it.

In 2000, André joined hands with an internet brokerage company in the Netherlands and started an academy to teach investors how to manage wealth and mitigate risks. He gave guidance to professional investors, CEOs, business owners, and working people across and beyond the Netherlands. He taught people even from Belgium, Spain, and France.

After serving 9 years in the academy, André started his own academy with his son Tom Brouwers in 2010. The methodology he developed forms the basis of his Academy Investment Institution, which offers courses on investing for people of all ages and educates more than 25,000 investors. The aim was to help people preserve their capital and gain progress on it. Through the institution, Brouwers helps investors learn about investment strategies that are specifically tailored to their needs, goals, and risk tolerance levels.

Commenting on the mission of his academy, André Brouwers says, “Our mission is to enable investors to make informed choices, gain insight into the financial markets and their own behavior to become successful. We believe that, through education, courses, and guidance, we can make every investor the best investor”.

Apart from the Institution, André also founded an investment strategy company called Brouwers Capital. Based on the methodology they developed, Brouwers Capital provides a uniquely systematic and automated investment strategy to its clients. The strategy aims to ensure a safe and stable return for investors, by lowering the risks in the volatile capital markets. We believe that having stable returns is sexier than high risk returns with big drawdowns.

The methodology provided by the company emphasizes the importance of a strategy to manage unforeseen risks in the market. Combining André’s extensive experience and expertise with technology, the firm developed an automated system. This system provides insight into finding the right time to buy and sell stocks and ensures a safe and stable return. Using an algorithm, André and his team identified the principle and pattern behind the process and developed this into a strategy that can be used by other investors. In addition, Brouwers Capital conducts statistical analysis and correlational studies to understand the volatility in the market and avoid potential risks.

“In terms of capital markets, the most important lesson I learned is the fact that nobody can influence the returns. We can only manage the risks. Therefore my aim is not to maximize returns but wisely manage the risks to ensure a stable and sustainable return”, André added.
