Jaime Kravitz, Founder of The Energy Producer, which refers to her MC, DJ and uplighting services, is encouraging more women to join the industry, and bridge the gap between the number of male and female event entertainers.

Kravitz aims to show women they can enter the industry, and change the common perceptions that men are more capable of being MC’s and DJ’s than women. She says she has met many women that are able to light up and control a room when they are present. According to Kravitz this trait coupled with experience in the entertainment industry can help bring new perspectives, diversity and representation to the field.

Kravitz’s journey to becoming a business owner and event professional has been a long and arduous one. She didn’t plan on becoming a DJ earlier in her life, but she found her way to this career years later after becoming stressed over working for unfair wages in many establishments, and escaping an abusive relationship.

Jaime was living in North Carolina when she graduated college and soon after she became a teacher. At the end of her first year of teaching she was laid off due to budget cuts in the school system. Kravitz was devastated in losing her job because she was highly received by her colleagues, and felt as if she was making a lot of progress. Losing her position only motivated her to move on and experience a new career path.

She immediately applied for a job on Disney Cruise Line and was hired. When she began training for the youth activities position, Kravitz was enamored with the potential of becoming a performer within her department. Her childhood experience in theater drew her to this opportunity in which she played unique personas, performing alongside famous Disney characters, taking the kids through different interactive storylines. When Kravitz was in character and using the microphone as part of her story entertainment she felt like she was doing what she loved.

Kravitz held the job on the cruise line for about two years, but she wanted to keep excelling and reach new heights in her career, and was unable to do that, which led to her feeling burnt out. She left the job, and returned to North Carolina where she once again took up teaching. After a year into teaching first grade she again felt she had a wonderful life with great students in a place where she was able to create an atmosphere that truly enabled her students to learn.

This came to a halt when the relationship she was in began to take a toxic turn. Suffering psychological abuse led to her suffering crippling anxiety and depression, which hindered her abilities to the point where she couldn’t properly function. To escape the abusive relationship and rebuild herself, she moved to her hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, and took up a job helping youth at a science museum. She quickly moved up into the role of exhibit project manager and developer. The job was demanding, but Kravitz turned it into a highly successful exhibition. Still wanting to achieve more in her life, she moved on, and started looking into the event entertainment industry.

Kravitz began immersing herself in the events world with a focus on MCing. She learned all the aspects of setting up equipment like monitors, speakers, other audio equipment and lighting. Within five years she had worked on hundreds of events, and started desiring to have more control in sales and planning processes. Kravitz was ready to create her own narrative, taking a leap of faith, founding The Energy Producer.

Upon launching her solo career, Kravitz began receiving hundreds of referrals, which she was able to successfully fulfill. She now works with many types of events ranging from nonprofit fundraisers and corporate conferences to weddings, women’s experiences, and other social opportunities. Now Kravitz is drawing on her own life struggles and determination that led her to becoming a professional entertainer, using it to create representation and to inspire other women to enter the industry.

Kravitz says she feels that women around the world and especially teachers have the same spark and determination that is perfect for a career as an event entertainer.

“I truly feel that I can help other women enter this industry and those that are already working in it to become more successful and start their own entertainment companies,” says Kravitz. “They have the same ability and energy to manage an event. These large events need someone captivating to control the room and run the show. Women are so perfect for this role even if they don’t know it. Everyone deserves a hype woman!”
