London-based game marketplace, PlanetPlay has reached 100,000 registered users in only six months of operating. Launched at the end of 2022, PlanetPlay was designed to leverage the power of the game community for good. By collaborating in-game with studios or hosting items on their marketplace, PlanetPlay makes contributing to positive climate projects easy. Players who purchase from their platform can support third-party verified initiatives that help local communities and the planet. Companies can meet SDG goals, demonstrate their commitment to sustainability, and satisfy their audiences.

The games industry may be viewed as a niche market with a limited consumer base, but the sector has become more lucrative than music and movies combined. The game community already boasts over 3 billion users and revenue is expected to reach $384 billion in 2023.

PlanetPlay entered the market to leverage the power of games to help solve the widespread problem of climate change. Without incentives or an accessible platform, people are not likely to change their behavior for the benefit of the planet. Through PlanetPlay’s platform, users and companies can save the planet by doing what they love.

PlanetPlay completes a rigorous vetting process to promote green projects that studios and users can support. They have raised over two million dollars so far to support a project that aims to reduce over two million tons of carbon emissions in the next ten years. PlanetPlay is involved with two projects at the moment. They are distributing clean cookstoves in a rural area of Kenya and reducing microplastics in New Zealand freshwater spaces in partnership with a local NGO.

PlantPlay has an ambitious yet realistic goal of expanding their green projects. The aim is to have numerous projects in multiple areas to ensure the help they provide is creating the largest impact possible.

Before PlanetPlay launched, founder Rhea Loucas wanted to create an impact-led game that motivated players to help the planet. But after conducting industry-specific research, she realized how limited her impact would be. Therefore, she decided to leverage existing games as vehicles for environmental change.

The digital marketplace was built to be easy for gamers and studios alike. It was created to solve pressing environmental problems in the industry by rallying billions of active users. PlanetPlay hopes that its platform enables people to have fun while making changes that help communities and locations across the globe.

Within the next five years, PlanetPlay would like to become the one-stop solution for connecting game studios and players with sustainability initiatives. PlanetPlay expects gamers to demonstrate more loyalty towards companies that have eco-friendly practices. If this trend occurs, they could reduce billions in carbon emissions and transform millions of lives.

This trend has been noticed by many major game studios around the world. With Sumo Group, ustwo games, Ten Square Games, Starbreeze, E-Line Media, and many more companies already partnering with PlanetPlay, with more partners expected in the near future.

"More than one in three people worldwide play games. That’s more than 3 billion people. Whether PC, mobile, or console, each one of those players have the ability to help make the world a better place. With our 100,000 user milestone, I am hopeful that PlanetPlay can allow gamers and studios to reduce environmental issues that affect everyone on this planet,” says CEO Rhea Loucas.
