Value Aligned Partners (VAP), a New Jersey-based investment planning firm, is celebrating 20 years of premium investment management and planning. VAP is a family-run investment business situated in Red Bank, New Jersey. The firm is made up of three professionals: a father, a nephew, and a son with deep roots in Middletown and Monmouth County.
Although VAP has been successfully aiding clients for 20 years. David Berkowitz (also known as Berk), has managed hedge funds for high networth individuals and institutions and has advised fortune 500 companies on economic value added and shareowner value issues in a career spanning over 40 years.
Berk had a successful career and made the incredibly difficult to some, but easy decision for him, to move away from serving ultra-high networth individuals, who don't need financial advice, to helping ordinary people who do. After seeing family, friends, and entire communities panic, sell stocks, and doom all chances of living a life at the standards they have become accustomed to after retirement. VAP was founded.
Speaking about the team’s successes, Founder, Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer of Value Aligned Partners, David Berkowitz, says their mastery of investment analysis and planning, has been key to the feats recorded so far. “The first thing we do is to determine what a client is trying to achieve, then together, we build a comprehensive financial plan and then, and only then, we design a portfolio of shares of great companies. We’re essentially financial planners first, and then, investment managers only in the sense that our shares of great companies are the funding media for the plans.”
Berk emphasizes the need for individuals and organizations to seek the services of professional investment brokers and advisors before making critical investment decisions. “Over the years, I have met with quite a number of self-proclaimed do-it-yourself investors who, after attempting to undertake key investments, struggled at critical points and later approached me, asking for a second opinion. Interestingly, almost every self-directed investor I've met has experienced similar setbacks.”
For 20 years Berk has educated his clients who seriously underestimate how long they are going to live in retirement for, thereby underestimating the amount of funds they are going to need for retirement. Many reputable portfolio managers,authors, and financial planners believe that you should allocate your investment assets broadly amongst stocks, bonds, and cash. Berk could not disagree more.
“I believe if wealth and financial independence is truly your goal, shares of great companies are not part of the answer, they are the only answer. Because, net of inflation and taxes, they are the only financial asset that has any return. Not just a better return, any return,” said Berk.
Berk stresses how their investment decisions are rational and not dependent on the whims of the market or economy. “At Value Aligned Partners, you won’t be coerced into investing in unsafe stocks simply because other clients hold such investments. Rather, we’ll only invest your account into stocks that still have a significant margin of safety as well as good growth possibilities. Your personal interests, wishes and preferences will also be accommodated in all of this. Value Aligned Partners also keep capital gains taxes at a minimum. You’ll still own your cost basis, so there will be no need for you to pay taxes on gains received by previous investors, as against what happens in mutual funds.”
Value Aligned Partners have seen tremendous growth over the past 20 years. However the business has no intentions of slowing down any time soon. The company has recently started the ambitious goal of expanding their services across the US to provide investment aid to a wider range of clientele.
