Former US Judge, Jim Tamm, is celebrating 50 years in the field of alliance building and conflict resolution. Tamm is also an expert in building collaborative workplace environments. As a Senior Administrative Law Judge for the State of California for 25 years, Tamm mediated more than 1,000 employment disputes. According to Tamm, workplace conflict can have a number of negative effects, which include decreased productivity, work disruptions, project failure, absenteeism, termination, among others.

Tamm says conflict resolution and building collaboration within organizations is not just a craft, but a passionate part of his life. He adds that his legal decisions have impacted national labor policy in the US, while building bridges among thousands of people. The seasoned author speaks on some of the highpoints of his five-decade professional career. Aside from mediating more that 1,000 employment disputes, he has written training materials that have been published in eighteen languages. These and other achievements earned him recognition by the California Senate, the California Assembly and the California Public Employment Relations Board for building more collaborative employment environments.

Tamm reveals that his wealth of experience as a mediator, judge and conflict resolution expert, was put together in his book, Radical Collaboration. He explains that this book (which was indeed a collaborative work) has received incredible acceptance being translated and published in 8 languages around the world.

Tamm co-authored Radical Collaboration with Ron Luyet, and it has been on top seller lists for workplace, organizational psychology, collaboration and negotiations books for most of the past 19 years.

The former judge says he has worked with a diverse client base of international organizations, including the United Nations, the European Union, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Toyota and Boeing, the US Army and Navy, top universities, financial institutions, pharmaceuticals and toy manufacturing companies. He is currently on the faculty of the International Management Program of the Stockholm School of Economics, and the Leadership Academy of the University of California, Santa Cruz, and the Wallenberg Institute in Sweden.

As an expert in alliance building and conflict resolution for increased productivity, when he is not teaching he’s giving keynote speeches and training other consultants how to teach collaboration skills. Looking to the future Tamm plans to continue helping companies become more collaborative. Tamm say “I love speaking to companies and at conferences using my wealth of experience to help organizations foster collaboration, because companies can’t compete externally if they can’t first collaborate internally”
