Manuel Astruc, MD, Founder of Your Next Act, celebrates 20 years as a psychiatrist and six years as an entrepreneur and leadership coach.

Astruc entered the field of psychiatry after completing med school and his residency in psychiatry and has worked as a medical director for a mental health unit and outpatient substance abuse treatment center, as well as owning and running his private practice, Manuel Astruc, M.D. & Associates for 20 years. He developed a passion for talking with people who are suffering with mental distress and then being able to help them through their struggles. During his time as a psychiatrist, Astruc suffered burnout, and with the death of his twin sister Magdalena. He remembered looking at a picture of him and his sister and seeing her smile even while she was sick, inspiring Astruc to change the way he was living. He “drew a line in the sand”, committed to strive for happiness and flourishing. This also led to writing and publishing his first book, Happiness Rules, Beat Burnout, Embrace Happiness and Become a Better Entrepreneur in October of 2022.

Astruc cut out all the negative things in his life that were bringing him down and started educating himself through podcasts, books and anything he could get his hands on that would provide him the ability to help others. He turned that knowledge into his entrepreneur and leadership coaching practice called Your Next Act. Astruc still puts most of his focus into his psychiatry practice, but he has been building the leadership coaching into a successful coaching business.

In the leadership coaching, Astruc works with his clients on a personalized basis so he can have a full understanding of the obstacles they are trying to overcome, which can be in their work or personal lives as well as a combination of both. According to Astruc, there are many stigmas surrounding entrepreneurs, leaders and business owners who try to reach out for help. He says they are reluctant to seek out mental health services because they feel they will be seen as weak or ineffective by their colleagues and the general public.

Astruc will work with his clients to guide them through disclosing their struggles, which is one of the first steps to overcoming the issues they deal with and working to become more successful in the workplace and healthier in their personal lives. Astruc is working towards putting more focus into his coaching practice and says he wants to develop more services to be included when he is working with his clients.

“Most of my time and focus is still put into my psychiatry practice, but in the next five to ten years I want to be able to work with more entrepreneurs, leaders and business owners to help give them a healthier life, so they can grow their businesses,” says Astruc. “I want to be able to coach small elite groups and eventually have the chance to do public speaking to bring awareness to the stigmas surrounding leaders reaching out for help.”
