National Safety Shelters, a Florida-based security and safety solution expert, who provides safe pods to public and private schools reaching the milestone of completing five years in the industry. In the wake of the tragic Parkland school shooting that happened in 2018, the company embarked on a mission to develop an effective safety measure to protect students and staff during critical events, leading to the creation of classroom safe pods for schools.

Differentiating itself from traditional perimeter-focused safety measures, National Safety Shelters offer a unique back-end approach to protect anyone in the building during life-threatening emergencies should a perimeter breach occur. The company’s safe pods are designed to shield against both active shooters and tornados, making them a unique dual-purpose safety net.

‘Tornado Alley', a region encompassing a significant part of the United States, has witnessed an increase in tornado frequency. As the threat of violent storms spreads to new areas, the shelters developed by the company protect students and staff from the devastating wind forces of even EF-5 tornadoes.

“Ensuring safety in schools became our top priority after the Parkland school shooting tragedy. We felt compelled to create an effective safety measure that would mitigate or even eliminate the casualties caused by these events should they happen in the future”, says Dennis Corrado, President of National Safety Shelters.

Over the past five years, the company has made significant strides, securing numerous school projects despite the two years lost to the pandemic because of school closings. This progress highlights the growing demand for these unique safety shelters in educational institutions due to their recognized value.

One of the notable projects of National Safety Shelters includes a school district in Quitman, Arkansas that wholeheartedly embraced the safety shelter project for the security of their students and staff by adding over 50 safe pods in all classrooms. This initiative precipitated a 30% enrollment increase of students from other districts due to parents wanting their children to attend a school with classroom shelters.

The company aims to further raise awareness about its unique safety solution, especially among government entities that provide funding to educational institutions. The company hopes to foster grant programs tailored to enhance the safety of schools by demonstrating the effectiveness of its innovative shelter.

On February 14 of this year, National Safety Shelters acquired another contract for campuses in the Concord School District in Arkansas. The local community overwhelmingly approved (86% of voters) a millage increase to fund the installation of classroom shelters. The project scope includes adding 41 safety shelters in all K-12 classrooms, PRE-K and Daycare rooms. The clear message that emerges from this vote is the recognition by the community that classroom safety shelters occupy an essential role toward the enhancement of school safety.

“We are dedicated to playing a part in protecting these children and providing peace of mind to their parents. As a parent myself I understand the urgent need to not only keep our children safe, but make them feel safe,” remarked John Corrado, Vice President of NSS.

“Our primary mission is to protect children and staff in our country’s school system. As the threats from tornadoes and school shooters increase, it is imperative to have reliable measures in place to save precious lives. By increasing public awareness, more school districts will recognize the tremendous opportunity that is now available to protect vulnerable personnel in our schools, and we can encourage government and private institutions to establish grant initiatives dedicated to help fund school safety initiatives”, Dennis emphasized.

As National Safety Shelters commemorates this significant milestone, it remains steadfast in its dedication to creating safer schools. By offering protection against both tornadoes and active shooters, the company continues to make a profound impact on the lives of students, teachers, and communities nationwide.
