When the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration introduced its rule requiring all commercial trucks to use an electronic logging device (ELD), few could foresee how it would open a door for innovation in fleet technology. For Ratan Baid, founder of ELD Mandate, it presented an opportunity to simplify compliance while supporting drivers with accessible, human-centered tools.

“We recognized early that compliance alone would not be enough,” Baid said. “Truck drivers needed live, 24/7 support and intuitive systems they could actually rely on.”

Drawing on a technology background that dates to 2001, Baid founded ELD Mandate in 2016 with the goal of bringing user-friendly telematics and safety systems to fleets across the U.S. and Canada. What began as an ELD provider has grown into a full-service IoT company developing products that enhance compliance, safety, and trailer security.

At its core, ELD Mandate provides three primary solutions: electronic logging and compliance systems, advanced camera-based safety tools, and a suite of smart trailer technologies. Each offering is designed with practicality in mind, reducing operational risks while improving visibility for fleet managers.

The company’s AI-enabled dash cams Model EM6120 combine a forward-facing camera with in-cab monitoring powered by driver-assistance (ADAS) and distraction-monitoring (DMS) technology. “The system alerts drivers if they are fatigued, using a cell phone, or drifting lanes,” Baid says. “It’s about prevention before an accident occurs.”

Insurance costs remain one of the largest burdens for trucking firms after fuel, and such safety tools can help document incidents accurately, protecting both drivers and operators when collisions occur.

One of ELD Mandate’s early innovations was a GPS tracker concealed within a trailer’s taillight. This design, known as the EM200/300 series, allows continuous location tracking while remaining virtually undetectable. “The idea came from watching how easily thieves could find and remove external trackers,” Baid says. “If you hide it inside a functioning taillight, removing it means removing the light, something no one can legally drive without.”

Where the ELD Mandate has recently drawn industry attention is in its trailer-security line. Baid says, “One of the major logistics companies approached my team seeking a solution for trailer misuse and theft. They wanted more than tracking; they wanted prevention.”

The result was the EM6000 series, a smart landing-gear system that automatically locks a trailer’s dolly legs when it’s parked, preventing unauthorized movement. Authorized drivers can unlock it via app, keypad, RFID card, or remote fleet command.

Beyond theft prevention, Baid’s team also explored safety. “Our newest EM6000-Auto model is designed to remove the physical strain by replacing the crank with an electric system,” he said. “Drivers can raise or lower the landing gear at the push of a button.”

Complementing this is the EM4000, an AI-powered dual-camera system mounted on trailers. One camera monitors from the front, scanning truck ID numbers for verification, while another tracks cargo conditions inside the trailer. The system can detect temperature and humidity changes, unauthorized entry, or even human presence. “It’s part of a broader effort to promote safety and transparency across the logistics chain,” Baid says.

Completing the safety is the Smart Door Locker, a heavy-duty, Bluetooth-enabled lock with encrypted access control. Only authorized personnel can open it through digital authentication, ensuring added protection for high-value or sensitive freight.

While ELD Mandate’s technology stands out for its engineering depth, the company’s business model also reflects flexibility. It offers white-label programs that allow other ELD or telematics providers to resell the company’s hardware and software under their own brand. “This helps smaller service providers expand their product lines while ensuring end users still benefit from reliable technology,” Baid says. For Baid, the ultimate goal is innovation and trust. “We have grown mainly through referrals,” he says. “When fleets see our systems work in real conditions and drivers feel supported, that word of mouth means more than any marketing.”

As the logistics sector continues to balance compliance demands, driver welfare, and asset protection, ELD Mandate’s work illustrates how thoughtful technology design can serve all three. Its expanding portfolio of AI-based, safety-oriented, and security-focused tools suggests that even in an industry built on movement, peace of mind remains the most valuable cargo.
