Dungeons Not Dating Announces Renewed Direction as It Nears First Anniversary

Summary: As it nears its first year, Dungeons Not Dating celebrates helping players connect and prepares to deepen those bonds through a values-aware update to its party-matching experience.

Dungeons Not Dating, a platform for Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) enthusiasts, is marking its upcoming first anniversary by celebrating a community-driven evolution of its party-matching experience. The platform is unveiling a thoughtful revamp designed to deepen connection, enhance accessibility, and support player safety across the D&D landscape.

“This revamp is about creating a space where players feel recognized and safe expressing themselves,” says Rachel Dove, founder and CEO of Dungeons Not Dating. “We’re introducing tools that help people discover and engage with communities that align with their unique play styles and personal values.”

Available on Google Play and the App Store, Dungeons Not Dating was created to help players of diverse backgrounds locate compatible groups and begin playing together confidently. Essentially, the app operates as a party matcher. Users create profiles that emphasize their character personas, play style preferences, and availability.

Matching currently relies on three principal filters: age range, preferred virtual play platform, and schedule. When players connect, they already share practical expectations about where and when they will play. From there, matches may open one-on-one or group chats where players can coordinate sessions, invite others, and develop the group dynamics needed for sustained campaigns.

Designed around ease of use and player agency, users enter their weekly availability and preferred virtual tabletop tools to align with others’ schedules. Character-focused profiles encourage the use of in-game names and personas, aiming to reduce friction for those who choose to keep real-world details minimal while still allowing a “Created By” tab that offers optional creator context.

Safety and moderation are part of the app’s design. A reporting system flags language that violates community guidelines and places accounts into a review status when concerns arise, allowing moderators to evaluate and act consistently. The app is open to users aged 13 and up and is currently offered to players in the United States and Canada.

Dungeons Not Dating’s upcoming revamp responds directly to feedback gathered since launch and aims to expand the ways people can filter and find one another. Future enhancements will introduce broader filtering options that let users identify potential matches based on shared personal values and life experiences, framed in the app as value tags.

“Players will be able to share what’s important to them and find others who share similar values. The goal is to help build gaming tables where empathy and mutual respect are prioritized,” says Dove. The refreshed experience will also prioritize accessibility improvements and additional safety tools intended to make participation easier and more comfortable for a wider range of players.

Dove’s approach to development emphasizes community-informed iteration. The app’s early-stage matching system keeps the experience focused, allowing new users to find suitable games quickly. Meanwhile, the roadmap for the next phase layers in richer profile detail and more nuanced discovery tools. This gradual expansion is intended to preserve matchmaking reliability while enabling more meaningful connections. “Players will still find peers who share practical play preferences, but they will also be able to identify others who share similar approaches to cooperation, storytelling, and table culture,” says Dove.

By combining schedule-aware matching with character-forward presentation and upcoming value-based filters, Dungeons Not Dating seeks to help players form groups that feel comfortable and creative. The team plans to continue listening to its users and adjusting features to support thoughtful play and community well-being.
