Founded two decades ago with the launch of Coffee Tamer, the company’s flagship product, Tamer Essentials has steadily expanded its product line to meet the needs of consumers who want to enjoy coffee, wine, and everyday meals without acid-related side effects like heartburn or reflux. A decade after the debut of Coffee Tamer, the company introduced Wine Tamer, followed by the recent release of Food Tamer earlier this year. Ashley Loyd, CEO and co-founder, says, “ Over the last 20 years, what has kept us motivated is hearing from customers who say, ‘I can finally drink coffee again,’ or ‘I can enjoy pasta night with my family without paying the price later.’ That’s why we keep innovating.”

The Tamer line is unique because it takes a proactive approach: instead of treating discomfort after it arises, the products are designed to change the acidity of foods and drinks before they enter the body. “The motive of the business is not to create more medicines,” Loyd explained. “Our philosophy is simple: food should be a source of joy, not discomfort. What began as an idea sparked in the classroom has become a long-standing brand. Steve Loyd, Ashley’s father and co-founder, was teaching at a Washington university when a student introduced him to the science behind the formula. Recognizing both the potential and his own personal struggle with acid reflux, Steve left academia to help launch Coffee Tamer and build the business. Over the years, the Loyd family has continued to lead the company with a focus on safety, quality, and customer trust.

That family connection remains central. Tamer Essentials manages to maintain a closed-loop system: from manufacturing in their own warehouse to distribution, every order passes through the family’s hands. “We take the product ourselves,” said Loyd. “That’s how you know we believe in it.
