TriActive USA, a family-owned manufacturer of outdoor fitness equipment designed for high-security and intensive-use environments, is celebrating seven years in business and continued growth as a trusted partner to correctional facilities across the United States.
Founded in 2018 after decades of experience in the corrections industry, TriActive USA began as a father-son venture in just 900 square feet of warehouse space. Today, the company operates out of its own 10,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Southern California, with multiple family members working in the business and installations in hundreds of correctional facilities nationwide.
TriActive USA grew out of a manufacturer’s representative firm launched in 2015, when co-founder Lucas Riphagen joined his father, Gregg Riphagen, who has worked in the corrections industry for more than 35 years. As opportunities emerged to move from selling equipment to manufacturing it, the family acquired key designs and brought production in-house. “We started with just the two of us, doing everything from sales to assembly,” says Riphagen. “Seven years later, we are a true family company with our own facility, our own team, and a very clear mission to build equipment that keeps people safe and helps them move.”

That mission has made TriActive USA a leader in correctional fitness. The company designs and manufactures heavy-gauge steel, powder-coated, outdoor fitness equipment that is tamper-resistant, uses no removable parts, and is engineered specifically for intensive-use environments like prisons and detention centers. By focusing on bodyweight resistance and simple, durable mechanisms, TriActive USA helps facilities offer exercise opportunities without introducing loose components that can be vandalized or turned into dangerous objects.
“Exercise is a powerful tool for rehabilitation,” Riphagen adds. “When people move their bodies, stress levels drop, aggression goes down, and focus improves. Many correctional systems are shifting from a punishment mindset to a rehabilitation mindset, and safe, purpose-built fitness equipment is a big part of that. We are proud to give facilities an option they can trust.”
While corrections remain its core market, TriActive USA’s equipment is increasingly installed in other intensive use settings, including juvenile facilities, state hospitals, and behavioral health environments that have similar safety requirements. The company also serves senior centers, HOA communities, military campuses, and other sites where outdoor fitness is in high demand and long-term durability is essential.
Across all of these environments, TriActive USA emphasizes that its products are made in the United States, supporting domestic jobs and giving agencies confidence in quality and supply. “Our customers are often public institutions,” Riphagen notes. “They want to know where their equipment comes from, how it is built, and who stands behind it. Being family-owned, family-operated, and USA-made is not just a slogan for us, it is how we do business every single day.”
As it marks this anniversary, the company is looking ahead to a new chapter. TriActive USA plans to build on its success in corrections by expanding further into the parks and recreation sector, where demand for durable, low-maintenance outdoor fitness equipment continues to grow.
“Our equipment was originally inspired by what you would see in a park,” he says. “We took that concept, strengthened it, and refined it for the toughest environments in the country. Now, as we look to the future, we see a real opportunity to bring that same level of durability and safety to parks, trails, and community spaces. If our products can perform over time in a correctional yard, we are confident they can perform anywhere.”
With a growing national footprint, a dedicated family team, and a clear focus on safety, quality, and service, TriActive USA enters into its eighth year poised for continued expansion in both its core correctional market and new outdoor fitness applications across the country.
