Oasis Emission Consultants has announced the upcoming patent review of its OASIS Vent Gas Monitoring System, a technology designed to address methane venting from natural gas compressor packages through monitoring, capture, and reintegration processes. Founded in 1999 by co-founders Greg Hunter and Chris Knott, the company has spent more than two decades working within emission testing and compliance services for natural gas engines, according to the founders.

From Hunter’s perspective, the system reflects years of field observation and testing across operating environments where vented methane has historically been difficult to quantify in real time. He explains that the technology was developed to capture vented natural gas and recycle it back into engine systems, while simultaneously generating continuous operational data. “Our focus has always been on helping operators run safely, cleanly, and responsibly without disrupting efficiency,” Hunter says.

“The OASIS Vent Gas Monitoring System integrates advanced sensors, real-time analytics, and automated reporting features intended to support regulatory documentation,” Knott explains. According to him, the system was designed to work alongside existing compressor infrastructure rather than requiring full equipment replacement. “Much of the work involves retrofitting and refurbishing units already in service, which allows operators to adopt updated monitoring capabilities within their current operational framework,” he notes.

According to Knott, the system tracks vented and recycled gas volumes continuously, enabling automated reporting aligned with federal and state environmental requirements. He explains that the data stream also supports preventative maintenance analysis by monitoring engine and compressor behavior over time. “When operators can see how equipment performs on a second-by-second basis, it becomes easier to identify potential issues before they escalate,” he says.

From his perspective, this layered approach reflects the company’s broader philosophy of combining measurement, control, and verification into a single framework. “Accurate measurement has always been the foundation of meaningful emissions management, and our work in EPA-compliant reference method testing shaped how this system was designed from the start,” he says.

According to the founders, while the patent for the OASIS Vent Gas Monitoring System is currently under review, the technology has already been deployed in multiple operational units across the United States. Hunter explains that these deployments have allowed the company to validate performance across varied conditions and compressor configurations. “The system was built to operate in real-world environments, not controlled test settings,” he says.

Knott adds that the technology’s development aligns with increased regulatory attention on methane emissions across America. He notes that operators are seeking tools that not only meet reporting requirements but also provide greater operational visibility. “There is growing interest in solutions that offer clarity and consistency, particularly when compliance expectations continue to evolve,” Knott says.

The system’s design allows it to be integrated during routine refurbishment cycles, which Hunter explains as an efficient point of adoption for contract compression providers and production operators. From his perspective, this approach minimizes disruption while enabling updated monitoring and data collection capabilities. “Our goal has been to make adoption practical, not burdensome,” he explains.

As Oasis Emission Consultants approaches its 25th year in operation, the founders explain the patent-pending system as a continuation of the company’s original mission. Knott notes that the company began by automating emission testing processes and has steadily expanded into data-driven solutions that support both compliance and operational decision-making. “The same principles that guided our early work still apply today,” he says.

Hunter emphasizes that the company’s focus remains on responsible operations within the natural gas sector. “Energy production is essential, and it comes with a responsibility to manage emissions thoughtfully,” he says. “This system reflects how that responsibility can be addressed through careful measurement, integration, and ongoing analysis.”
