Porter Labs announces the upcoming presale of PupStation™, an intelligent learning ecosystem created to engage dogs in self-guided learning activities using skill-shaping technology and positive reinforcement. Offered initially through a limited open beta program, the exclusive presale invites early adopters to help shape the technology, which was designed to support dogs’ cognitive needs while strengthening the human-animal bond.

PupStation™ encompasses a wearable behavior tracker, interactive feeder, and a cloud-based intelligence platform to create customized learning sessions for dogs. Powered by a dual-device framework, one device detects and analyzes movement and behavior, while another rewards progress with food-based reinforcements. According to co-founder and CEO Scarlett Trillia, the approach follows the principle of behavior shaping, an operant conditioning philosophy that involves rewarding skill progression toward a target goal without any adverse stimuli or corrections.

Trillia explains, “We’re introducing agentic learning activities for dogs. Our system can engage with a dog independently, but always in a way that supports the relationship between the dog and the human. As the dog learns, the system learns with them. It has the capacity to adapt the lesson to keep the dog in a constant state of learning.”

The platform was originally inspired by Porter, a Labrador owned by co-founder and CPO Karthik Arumugham. “Porter taught him a lot about dog training and behavior science,” Trillia shares. Arumugham observed that many modern households may not meet the mental stimulation and enrichment needs of working-breed dogs through physical activity alone. Research corroborates this, highlighting how positive interventions help improve cognitive functions, enhance memory, and promote problem-solving skills that can result in calmer, more settled behavior.

“Dogs’ brains are incredibly good at pattern recognition, similar to the code in computers. This makes them excellent candidates for software-based learning and emerging AI technologies. Watching them figure out in real-time how to make the system reward them is inspiring,” she says. With regard to cats, Trillia notes that cats may harbor a more advanced intellectual framework. “Cats are elusive, and they’re more complex. But during our beta tests, we’ve noted how cats are often fascinated by the dogs and how they work the system.” While the platform currently caters to dogs, Trillia envisions expanding the technology’s capabilities to multi-species households.

PupStation™ is designed to be an ally for both dogs and dog owners, especially at a time when global pet ownership is rising sharply. Ninety-four million US households today own at least one pet, and spending on pet care continues to grow year over year as Gen Z pet owners increasingly treat pets as family members. Studies from the Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI) further show that pets help improve mental and physical health, making enrichment technologies like PupStation™ especially relevant.

The PupStation™ app, launching alongside the platform, allows users to join the waitlist and access an integrated chatbot developed in partnership with a global platform that connects users to pet experts. The feature is intended to offer guidance on animal health and learning questions while helping Porter Labs better understand user needs before hardware deployment. This step reflects the company’s emphasis on ethical deployment and ensuring the technology never promotes undesirable behaviors.

Porter Labs is also actively seeking values-aligned partners. Because the system relies on food-based rewards, the company plans to collaborate with a pet nutrition partner to optimize treat delivery. Future integrations may include genetic testing data and veterinary reports, allowing PupStation™ to tailor activities based on breed traits, health conditions, or injuries.

The long-term vision extends beyond a single product as Porter Labs aims to become the intelligence layer within the growing smart-home ecosystem for pets, enabling other pet IoT devices to integrate into a unified, learning-driven platform. “Our dogs evolved alongside us,” says Trillia. “As our lives move further into digital environments, they deserve access to enrichment that meets them where we are today. PupStation™ is just the first step in making that possible.”
