What began as a name change has become something more. In the months since transitioning from Highland Park Baptist Church, GraceWay Bible Church has seen renewed clarity, a stronger local connection, and meaningful growth across its ministries.
Originally established in 1910 and relocated to Southfield in 1963, the church has long been committed to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ both locally and globally. Today, that mission continues with fresh momentum under a name that more clearly reflects who they are and where they are planted.

“In the months since the change, we’ve seen how the name has provided clarity and the impact it has had in the area,” said Brent Slater, senior pastor. “Being known as GraceWay Bible Church has helped people in Southfield and the surrounding communities immediately understand who we are—a Bible-centered church rooted right here in their city.”
The updated name has strengthened the church’s presence among those searching for a church in Southfield, MI, as well as individuals looking for “churches near me” that are grounded in Scripture and committed to authentic community. It has also removed confusion tied to the previous name, allowing the church to more fully identify with and serve the Southfield community.
The meaning behind the name continues to be a powerful reminder of the church’s direction and core beliefs:
Grace – God’s undeserved forgiveness, strength, and hope
Way – Faith in Jesus Christ as the only way, and the new life He gives
Bible – God’s Word as the ultimate authority and foundation
Since the transition, GraceWay Bible Church has seen increased engagement across its church ministries, including growing participation in women’s Bible study, expanded opportunities for Christian marriage ministries, and a steady rise in online prayer requests from both members and the broader community.
Midweek gatherings have also gained momentum, with more families attending the Wednesday night ministries like AWANA, Bible study, youth group, and prayer gathering for teaching, fellowship, and discipleship.
“We’re seeing people step in, get connected, and grow,” Slater said. “The name change didn’t alter our mission—it clarified it. And that has made it easier for people to find us, join us, and become part of our church community.”
