Wally Smart Storage, a Calgary-based garage storage company, has launched a new wall-mounted storage system designed to solve one of the most common frustrations in the home: knowing something is in the garage, but not knowing where.
Unlike traditional garage shelves, cabinets, or DIY bin stacks, Wally combines a professionally installed floating tote rack system with a smart app that creates a searchable inventory of what is stored in each bin. Homeowners can snap photos of their items, let the app identify and tag them, then search later for everyday items like hockey tape, camping gear, holiday decorations, tools, bike pumps, or winter gloves.

Wally’s physical system is installed by the company’s team and mounted directly to the garage wall, creating a floating grid of premium storage totes. By moving storage off the floor, the system helps homeowners park, sweep, and move through the garage more easily. Each bin is labelled with a smart sticker and connected to the Wally Smart App, where items can be photographed, tagged, browsed, and searched.
The company’s early audience research shows why this matters. In a 2026 study of 171 qualified garage-owning homeowners in Canada, 57% said they search for garage items weekly or more often, while 53% identified not being able to find needed items quickly as a top frustration. The research also found that most garage owners are not starting from scratch. Many already use shelves, bins, cabinets, or other storage systems, but still struggle with fragmented, memory-dependent organization.
“That is the gap Wally is built around,” said Bedard. “People do not just need another place to put their stuff. They need a reliable system that tells them what they have and where it is.”
The Wally Smart App is designed to reduce the manual work that makes traditional home inventory apps difficult to maintain. Instead of typing out long lists, homeowners take photos of items as they go into each bin. The app uses AI-assisted tagging to identify and categorize items, while still allowing users to edit names, categories, and details when needed.
Customers can later search using plain language, browse photos visually, or browse categories to find the right bin quickly. The system is especially useful for seasonal items, tools, sports equipment, camping gear, automotive supplies, holiday decorations, kids’ items, and household overflow.
